What is the difference between an Osteopath, Chiropractor and a Physiotherapist?
Osteopaths diagnose problems through functionality and work from a biomechanical model of treatment, utilising soft tissue, articulatory and manipulative techniques. Osteopathy is a holistic approach to health that emphasises the interrelationship between structure and function of the body. Chiropractors work from a predominately neurological model. As a result their treatments tend to be manipulative based. Physiotherapy is a rehabilitation-based approach. All professions have different philosophies, principles, approaches to treatment and are quite different. It’s important to note that the scope of practice can vary and individual practitioners within each profession may have different approaches. Osteopaths tend to be a nice blend of both professions, with comprehensive focus of the pelvis as a foundation.
Do I need a referral from a GP?
